The beginning: 2012
FaMESHed was founded in May 2012 by Cracked Mirror. The concept was straightforward: create a monthly event specifically showcasing high-quality mesh creators from around Second Life. The official FaMESHed history still identifies Cracked Mirror as the founder. fameshed.com
The timing was almost perfect. Linden Lab had only enabled mesh across the entire Second Life grid on August 23, 2011. Before that, SL creation was dominated by system clothing, prims, sculpties, flexi-prims and similar techniques. Mesh suddenly allowed creators to import detailed 3D models produced in outside software. Second Life Wiki
By March 2012, Linden Lab was already talking about a growing “mesh revolution,” noting that more designers were beginning to experiment with the technology. FaMESHed launched just a couple of months later. Second Life Community
There is actually surviving evidence from May 1, 2012, the first month of FaMESHed. The Loft described it at the time as a new monthly event focused on mesh items, while showing furniture created specifically for the event. That gives us a neat little time capsule from the event’s earliest days. Flickr
Early 2012 SL fashion blogs were already treating FaMESHed as a regular shopping destination. By June, bloggers were covering FaMESHed releases from brands such as JANE, MONS, Maxi Gossamer and others, while men’s-fashion blogs were highlighting exclusive mesh clothing and footwear there. nerdfinds.blogspot.com
Why FaMESHed mattered
The name itself is essentially a play on “famished” and mesh, and the organizers say it should be pronounced roughly “Fah-Meshed/Famished,” not “Fame Shed.” π fameshed.com
But its bigger importance was its focus.
FaMESHed wasn’t simply another general shopping fair. Its identity centered on original mesh creation. Even today, its rules specifically exclude stores focused solely on poses, animations, tattoos, skins and appliers because the core event is supposed to showcase original mesh products. It is also deliberately non-themed and normally not a discount event. fameshed.com
That distinction mattered much more in 2012 than it might sound today. Mesh was still relatively new. Residents were learning about rigged versus unrigged mesh, Standard Sizing, alpha layers, land impact and how mesh clothing behaved compared with older SL clothing. A curated event dedicated to mesh gave residents one destination where they could see what creators were doing with the new technology. Contemporary SL forum discussions from September 2012 were already recommending FaMESHed when people asked where to find mesh clothing. Second Life Community
So FaMESHed wasn’t merely following an established trend. It was there during the period when mesh itself was becoming the new standard.
The ownership change: 2015
A major change happened in December 2015, when Elvi Peppermint became the sole owner of FaMESHed. From that point forward, she took responsibility for the event and its development. fameshed.com
That is an important dividing line in its history. Cracked Mirror created the original event and concept, while the Elvi era turned FaMESHed into the long-running brand residents recognize today.
The 2017 reinvention
In October 2017, FaMESHed underwent a major visual rebranding with new colors, branding and an updated overall identity. The event described its new philosophy as:
“Simple, Clean & Elegant.”
A new event build followed on November 1, 2017. fameshed.com
That aesthetic became part of FaMESHed’s identity. Rather than building every round around an elaborate fantasy theme, the venue itself increasingly functioned as a polished showroom, allowing the products and brands to remain the center of attention.
That’s also one of the reasons FaMESHed has aged rather well. It didn’t lock itself into one particular genre. Fashion, hair, shoes, accessories, furniture, dΓ©cor and architecture could all coexist under the same roof as long as the mesh-creation requirement was met.
FaMESHed X arrives: 2018
Then came the naughty sibling. π
FaMESHed X launched in October 2018 as an adult-oriented spin-off. The archived October 2018 inventory survives, and contemporary SL bloggers described it at the time as an all-new adult event. One contemporary post records the first round opening on October 20, 2018. fameshedx.com
FaMESHed X retained the parent event’s emphasis on original mesh but shifted the content toward the adult and erotic side of Second Life.
It eventually settled into its current bi-monthly format, with rounds in February, April, June, August, October and December. fameshedx.com
By October 2025, the official FaMESHed X site was celebrating its seventh anniversary, confirming that 2018 origin. fameshedx.com
FaMESHed becomes an institution
Over time, FaMESHed developed into much more than a bunch of vendor booths.
It now maintains an organized ecosystem around every round: an official website inventory, blogger program, update group, demo system, social-media presence, main shopping venue and additional cam-access options for residents trying to shop during crowded openings. Its official Second Life group currently has tens of thousands of members. Second Life
The regular event retained one particularly recognizable tradition: opening on the 1st of every month at 12 PM SLT. The current Second Life Destination Guide lists each round as running from the 1st through the 27th. Second Life
And every May is special because May is FaMESHed’s anniversary month. fameshed.com
FaMESHed in the modern PBR era
Something I think is especially interesting is that FaMESHed has now lived through several generations of Second Life technology.
It began when regular mesh itself was revolutionary.
Then came fitted mesh, mesh bodies, Bento, increasingly sophisticated materials and lighting, and now PBR.
FaMESHed has adapted again. Its May 2026 anniversary information specifically says that the venue had been updated for PBR, while noting that residents using non-PBR viewers could still shop even though the building might not display correctly. fameshed.com
That is almost poetic considering where the event started. In 2012 it was showcasing creators adapting to a brand-new thing called mesh. Fourteen years later, it was adapting its own venue to another major Second Life rendering technology.
The 14th anniversary in 2026
FaMESHed celebrated 14 years in May 2026. The anniversary round included an enormous designer lineup, anniversary gifts on a separate FaMESHed Again region and special discount areas. fameshed.com
Think about that longevity for a moment.
2012 β 2026. Fourteen years of monthly rounds.
Second Life has seen countless shopping events appear, become incredibly popular for a while and then disappear. FaMESHed surviving for fourteen years places it among the genuinely long-lived names in SL shopping culture.
And it hasn’t survived simply on nostalgia. Its current designer roster still includes major fashion, accessories and home-and-garden brands alongside newer creators. The official mission remains essentially the same as it was at the beginning: bring established and emerging original-mesh designers together in one event. fameshed.com

What makes FaMESHed important to Second Life history is that it wasn’t created after mesh had already taken over SL. It grew alongside mesh. It started less than a year after Linden Lab rolled mesh out gridwide and became one of the places where residents could actually watch SL design transition from the prim/sculpt era into the modern mesh world we take for granted now.
